Unser Team

Unser gemeinnütziger Verein Gambia Bayoolu e.V. wurde 2018 von zehn engagierten Gründungsmitgliedern ins Leben gerufen. Der Name „Bayoolu“, aus der Sprache Mandinka, bedeutet „Waisenkinder“ und drückt unser zentrales Ziel aus – elternlosen Kindern eine bessere Perspektive zu ermöglichen.

Unsere Arbeit wird von zwei eng kooperierenden Vereinen getragen: dem deutschen Verein Gambia Bayoolu e.V. und dem gambischen Verein Bayoolu The Gambia. Durch regelmäßige Treffen und intensiven Austausch sorgen wir für eine transparente und gezielte Verwendung der Spenden und eine nachhaltige Planung unserer Projekte.

Darüber hinaus reist unser Team regelmäßig nach Gambia, um die Fortschritte der Kinder zu sehen und persönliche Kontakte zu Schulen und Familien zu pflegen. So stellen wir sicher, dass die Hilfe dort ankommt, wo sie am dringendsten gebraucht wird.
Hinter unserer Arbeit stehen engagierte Menschen, die sich mit Herzblut für die Kinder in Gambia einsetzen. Unser Vorstandsteam arbeitet ehrenamtlich, koordiniert Projekte und pflegt den Austausch mit unserem gambischen Partnerverein, um eine zielgerichtete Unterstützung zu gewährleisten.

Hier stellen wir unser Team vor:

1. Vorsitzender: Mustapha Cham

Ich freue mich, dass wir mit einem Freundeskreis den Verein Gambia Bayoolu e.V. gegründet haben und die Mitglieder des Vereins mich zum Vorsitzenden gewählt haben. Mit Gambia Bayoolu möchten wir einen Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Lebenssituation von elternlosen Kindern in Gambia leisten.

Gebürtig bin ich aus Jambur/Gambia und 2015 nach Deutschland gekommen. Ich bin in Gambia aufgewachsen und habe dort eine Ausbildung zum Maurer gemacht. In meinem weiteren Leben habe ich als Maurer, Taxifahrer, Gärtner, Trommler und jahrelanger Mitarbeiter in einer Lodge für Touristen meinen Lebensunterhalt verdient. In Deutschland arbeite ich als Monteur im Solarbereich. Seit einigen Jahren engagiere ich mich im Gambiaverein Dortmund und mache Menschen auf die schlechten Lebensbedingungen, insbesondere von elternlosen Kindern in Gambia aufmerksam. Ich bin verheiratet und habe einen Sohn.

2. Vorsitzende: Inge Haneman

Ich bin 55 Jahre alt, verheiratet und habe 2 erwachsene Töchter.
Von Beruf bin ich Krankenschwester, Dipl. Sozialpädagogin und Tierheilpraktikerin.  Ich arbeite als Praxismanagerin in Bochum. Als ich 2017 das erste Mal nach Gambia gefahren bin, wurde mir sehr deutlich, wie wichtig insbesondere Bildung in diesem Land ist. Ohne eine gute Schulbildung ist es für Gambianer, insbesondere Mädchen, nicht möglich, eine Zukunftsperspektive zu entwickeln, die nicht nur aus Armut und Krankheit besteht.

Beisitzer: Philipp Reusmann – Bremer

Im Januar 2022 war ich drei Wochen lang in Gambia. Die Freudigkeit der Menschen dort mit ihrer ausgeprägten Kultur des sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Teilens hat mich sehr berührt. Es ist so viel einladende Schönheit in diesem Land !

Gleichzeitig ist die Not nicht zu übersehen. So viele junge Menschen es in diesem Land auch gibt, es gibt für sie zu wenig Bildungsangebote im Land und zu wenig spätere berufliche Perspektiven.

Mit Gambia Bayoolu wollen wir Waisenkindern Bildung ermöglichen. Und vor Ort gibt es dazu unseren Partnerverein Bayoolu the Gambia, deren Mitglieder ganz genau wissen, was gebraucht wird und denen wir zuhören, wo die Reise für die Kinder in und mit diesem Land hingehen kann.

Meine Frau und mein Sohn (9 Jahre) wollen jetzt auch demnächst nach Gambia kommen.
Ich bin gelernter Betonbauer und Dipl. Ökonom und arbeite als Unternehmer und Musiker.

Kassenwartin: Annette Wolter

Gehört von Gambia Bayoolu habe ich das erste Mal durch einen beeindruckenden Reisebericht von Vereinsmitgliedern. Die Schaffung einer Perspektive für Waisenkinder durch Bildung, insbesondere die persönliche Kenntnis der Situation in Gambia durch Tapha und die enge Verbindung zum gambianischen Team machen die Vereinsarbeit zu etwas Besonderem. Ich bin gern Teil eines sehr engagierten Teams und freue mich auf meinen ersten Besuch in Gambia.

Enny Pötter

Seit vielen Jahren fahre ich regelmäßig nach Gambia um dort Kultur und Menschen kennen zu lernen und partiell Unterstützung zu leisten. Einzelne Unterstützungen sind auf Dauer nicht nachhaltig, so dass ich froh bin, dass wir mit Gambia Bayoolu die Möglichkeit haben, langfristig vielen Kindern, Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen zu einer besseren Perspektive zu verhelfen.Ich wohne in Witten und bin als Kunst-und Sozialtherapeutin sowie als freischaffende Bildhauerin tätig. Darüber hinaus bin ich in verschiedenen anderen Vereinen ehrenamtlich engagiert. In meiner Freizeit beschäftige ich mich mit Kunst und Kultur sowie mit Lesen und Reisen.

Diana Ochs

Als ich Tapha kennengelernt habe, hat er von seinem Wunsch erzählt, etwas für elternlose Kinder in Gambia zu tun. Da mir Kinder sehr am Herzen liegen, habe ich die Vereinsgründung gerne unterstützt. Ich (Jg 1973) habe selbst einen Sohn (*2007), lebe mit meiner Partnerin und ihren Kindern (*2014, *2011) als Patchworkfamilie zusammen.

Im Januar/Februar 2020 war ich zum ersten Mal in Gambia und bin sehr berührt von der positiven, lebensbejahenden Art der Menschen in Gambia – und von der großen Armut und den Schicksalen der Kinder, die durch unseren Verein gefördert werden. Seitdem bin ich mit Herzblut dabei und freue mich, nun auch im Vorstand ganz aktiv mein Engagement und Knowhow einbringen zu können.

Als Sozialpädagogin und Fachwirtin im Sozial- und Gesundheitswesen habe ich viele Jahre in unterschiedlichen sozialen Organisationen gearbeitet. Heute begleite ich freiberuflich vorwiegend Frauen als Coach und Beraterin und arbeite zudem für ein Sozialunternehmen, das Sachspenden für soziale Zwecke vermittelt.

Demba Cham

My name is Demba Cham, born in 1982 in the village of Jambur in the West Coast Region of The Gambia and raised in Sanyang, also in the West Coast Region.
I completed my primary education in Jambur (Grades 1–6) and continued at Jamisa Upper Basic School in Brikama, where I finished my junior secondary education.

By profession I am a constructor, and at the same time I run my own business. I have been part of Bayoolu The Gambia since its foundation. There are many reasons why I joined this great association. One of them is my deep desire to support people in need. In particular, it is very important to me to support orphans and half-orphans, so they can have better opportunities and a brighter future.Another important reason is that the founder of the association is my brother, and I want to support him in everything he strives to achieve in life.

As Chairman of the Gambia branch, it is both an honour and a privilege for me to contribute to the work of our organisation.

Sarata Darboe

My name is Sarata Darboe. I was born on 3rd February 1990 and I am 35 years old. I am a mother of two children and I live in Tujereng Village, Kombo South District, West Coast Region of The Gambia. I work as an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Facilitator and, in my free time, I enjoy cleaning and cooking for my family.

I have been working with Bayoolu The Gambia since 2019. I am very happy and honored to be part of this association, as my main intention is to support children who have lost their parents and to help improve their living conditions. It brings me great joy to see these children supported through the project, gaining access to education, healthcare, and nutritious food. Being part of this mission has truly been a meaningful and rewarding experience for me.

Sarata Darboe – Trasurer

Ansumana A. M. Bojang

My name is Ansumana A. M. Bojang. I was born on 21 June 1982 in Jambur, in the Kombo South District on the west coast of The Gambia. I am married and the proud father of four children – three girls and one boy. I also have five brothers and four sisters and live in a large extended family, which is an important part of my life.

Since September 2006, I have been working as a teacher for early childhood development. I completed my training as a qualified ECD teacher at the Gambia College – School of Education from 2006 to 2009.

I love dancing, listening to music, watching football matches and films, reading books and going out with friends. The development of children and the realisation of their dreams are very important and meaningful to me. My greatest wish is for every child to have access to education – either through school or vocational training.

Since January 2022, I have been part of the Bayoolu project, whose vision corresponds exactly to my own goals. Computer lessons for children on weekends, which many do not receive at their schools, are particularly important to me. I am also involved in rice distribution to support children and their foster families.

The economic situation in Gambia is very difficult for many families, especially for orphans and children from poor backgrounds. That makes me all the happier to be able to help through this project – above all through education, school fees and learning materials.

Together, we can achieve a lot. Let’s work together to make the world a better place for the younger generation.

Aja Camara

 Asalamu alaykum!

My name is Fatoumatta Camara, known as Aja. I was born in 2002 in Sanyang (Kombo South Region, Gambia) and grew up there. I am single and have nine brothers and five sisters.

I am currently attending nursing school, as health and caring for others are very important to me. In my free time, I am particularly interested in sports and music.

In October 2023, I joined the Bayoolu The Gambia association, known in Germany as Gambia Bayoolu e.V. I am filled with gratitude and joy to be part of this project – especially because I want to help orphans. My goal is to give them a better future through education and medical support.

I am very impressed by the cooperation between Gambia and Germany in this project. I am proud to be part of it and promise to do my best to make a positive difference in the lives of these children.

Bakary Touray

My name is Bakary Touray, and I was born in 1985. I am married and father of one child. I have 5 brothers 3 sisters. I live in extended family with many siblings.

I was born in Gunjur Kunkujang, located in the Kombo South District of the West Coast Region. Since September 2007, I have been working as an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher. Between 2017 and 2019, I attended the Gambia College, where I qualified as a professional teacher.

In addition to my work in education, I also serve as a regional referee in the West Coast Region. I have a deep passion for the development of children and young people, which is why I was thrilled to join the Bayoolu Project in April 2023. I am very happy to be part of this initiative and actively participate in its activities.

Matty J. Mendy

My name is Matty J. Mendy. I was born in 1995 and I am 30 years old. I have one kid and I come from a family of five, with four sisters and one brother. I am living in a village called Sanyang, located in the Southern part of the Gambia. I work as a teacher for five years.                

In my leisure time, I enjoy singing and watching movies, as they are both relaxing and educational. They help me stay informed about current events and allow me to continuously learn new things.    

Since 2020, I have been actively involved with the association of Gambia Bayoolu. It has been five years now, and I am proud to be part of this meaningful initiative.     

I am passionate about supporting children who have lost their parents. The living conditions for many children in The Gambia can be extremely difficult and heartbreaking. This reality has deeply touched me and strengthened my commitment to making a positive difference.       

I am truly happy and honored to be part of this project.

Ousainou Jallow

My name is Ousainou Jallow; I was born in 11 February1980 and I am now 45 years old, I have 3 children 1 boy and 2 girls. I have 3  brothers and 6 sisters. I’m living in Sanyang which is under west coast Region of The Gambia, I am working in a Real Estate Company as sales and marketing manager. I also have much interest in sport. I have Coach different categories of teams ranging from second division and third division teams.sport is my hobby.

 I have participated and work for the association of Gambia Bayoolu since 2019 to date.

I am happy to be part of  this noble association because my intention is to support the living condition of children who lost their parents. The living condition of many children in the Gambia are sometimes so poor that it’s melt my heart to see children been in this condition. So I’m happy to support this project and especially I’m happy that the kids that are in this noble association have full access to education, healthcare nutritious food. I really love to work with this association simply because I am getting a lot of experience in the process.
